Following his medical degree in Southampton, Mr Allenby-Smith focused his career around upper gastrointestinal surgery. Training across the south coast specialist centres, he specialised in laparoscopic (key hole) surgery for a range of conditions. During his final year training in Southampton he further developed skills in the laparoscopic management of oesophageal cancer and bariatric (weight loss) surgery.
He became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 2010 and started as a Consultant General and Upper Gastrointestinal Surgeon in Poole Hospital in 2011.
He currently provides a comprehensive service for the management of hernias, gall stones and acid reflux at both Poole Hospital and The Harbour Hospital. Mr Allenby-Smith performs over 100 gall bladder and 100 inguinal hernia operations per year with over 99% performed laparoscopically.
